Positive Energy

"You can have all the time in the world, but if you don't have the energy, you can't get anything done." --Jon Gordon

I read this quote a couple of weeks ago and it nudged me to read
The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy. Gordon encourages us to focus less on our time and more on our energy. Time is finite-there are only so many hours in the day. What we can affect is the positive energy that we bring to our day.

There are times in all of our lives when we need to take a good hard look at the energy we expend. Being optimistic and having enthusiasm to perform at a higher level takes energy. It doesn't just happen by chance. If you get a chance pick up a copy of this inspirational book. Today I will focus on having more positive energy!

Fashion Week In New York

It is Fashion Week in New York this week. A week of fashion shows and events featuring designers newest creations. I have always enjoyed looking at the photos and reviews of each designer. They are so creative! I love the behind the scene articles of where they get their inspiration from. Absolutely amazing to me is the process from vision to runway. For those of you who love fashion as much as I do I hope you are enjoying this week as well!

Lancome

Right before Christmas I stopped by the Lancome counter for a makeover. It has been a long time since I purchased all new make up and it was such a fun experience. Herberger's was full of customers...the hustle and bustle of the holiday season was in full swing.

I walked up to the counter and the sales associate immediately smiled and greeted me sincerely. We talked for a moment or two about my needs, then I sat down for the full experience. She asked all the right questions, and then gave me a couple of options. In fact I loved both the lip shades she chose for me and I can't resist having great 'lips'! She was patient with me and even though there were a lot of other customers around the counter her focus was on me because they were staffed for a busy day! What a refreshing experience! Because she was able to focus on me of course I purchased more than I intended when I walked in! I left feeling really good about myself and the whole experience!

It is now two months later and today as I was getting ready to meet a new client I was applying my make up. As I put on my 'lips' I smiled at my reflection. I felt put together and ready to greet the day and my new client. Thanks to a pleasant and sincere experience at the Lancome counter at Herberger's!

Do It Now!

My mom has a 'Do It Now' paperweight on her desk. It has been there my whole life. The desk is adjacent to the door to the garage so that is where she would always leave us notes. A gentle reminder of what we needed to bring with us to an activity, the grocery list, or a couple of letters/bills that needed to be mailed if we were going to walk by the mailbox or drive by the post office.

Little did she know what an impact that 'Do It Now' paperweight would have on my lifestyle. Somehow through that subliminal message my subconscious mind positively influenced my life. I have a tendency to take action quickly and not procrastinate. That's not to say that I don't procrastinate because I do sometimes. However, in the back of my mind is that message to act now.

My mom lives 'Do It Now'. She has the uncanny ability to act and then move on to the next task at hand. My mom makes a decision and then puts it into action. Reflecting on this quality of my moms I have a feeling that it is not just that paperweight that has affected my life. I have that same quality and I can thank my mom for giving it to me! I have a paperweight on my desk and it is used for the same gentle reminders in my home now. When I go home to my parents home my moms paperweight that says 'Do It Now' is still being used daily! Love you mom!

Expertise

There are many times that I seek out the expertise of those who have knowledge they are willing to share with me. I am naturally a very curious person that is blown away by all there is to learn! I find that if I turn to someone who has more experience than I do on a certain subject I can learn so much from them!

There are experts that teach me specific points and encourage me to ask questions so that I can become a better person. I want to have more expertise at the end of the day than I had when I start the day! There is a wealth of information that we can learn about if we only ask. I seek out that information in person as often as I can. Then I try to do a little research on the internet to confirm what I have learned!

I try to share all I have learned through the years. Many points I have learned through taking risks. I have experienced success and failure. Through it all I have tried to share my experience through my expertise when someone has been curious!

Being Unconventional

Unconventional means not conventional, not bound by or in accordance with convention. It also means being out of the ordinary. For example an unconventional thinker.

I recently read an article about why a CEO hired a particular gentleman to work for him. He said it was because this person was a strong, unconventional thinker. Wow! This really made me think of the attributes a person brings to a business. So many time we chose to follow the same path we have always chosen. Sometimes what we need to do is focus on a totally different mindset. If we surround ourselves with different, out of the ordinary ideas then a different outcome plays out!

Is the risk worth the reward? Is there something you have thought about trying, but conventional wisdom has won out? What if for today you take one unconventional idea and put it in into action? Something out of the ordinary. Something nobody would expect you to do. You too can be like the gentleman who was hired by the CEO. You would be a strong, unconventional thinker!
