This year the Saint Paul, MN Winter Carnival runs January 26th - February 5th. During these dates are events that attract approximately 350,000 visitors a year to the city. The events include a half marathon, a parade, ice carving, snow sculpting, a treasure hunt, a hockey tournament and many, many other fun activities. I have been enjoying fresh squeezed orange juice every morning for the past month. I am trying to get to my daily recommended intake of fruits and vegetables so I have to get creative! I got my juicer out of my cupboard, and put it on my counter so I would see it every day! I've been stopping at the grocery store every couple of days for fresh fruit and so far so good! I love the smell of the orange as it's juicing and I love the taste! Saturday June 18th and Sunday June 19th we will offer Free USA Domestic Mailing On Our Letter And Number Metal Stamp Kits (includes stamping set, bench block and hammer).

This is a great kit for anyone who wants to get into metal stamping. Included is one of our most popular letter and number stamp sets, a high quality steel bench block and hammer weighted just about perfectly for stamping.

The letter and number set is your choice of a 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 6mm in a plastic case. We also offer the 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 6mm in a wooden box. These are average letter size in height and is great for projects made from sheet and soft metals. These new stamps are made of tool steel which is then hardened to provide long life. The set includes all 26 letters of the alphabet in upper case, the numbers zero through 8, with the 6 doing double duty as the 9, and an ampersand.

The bench block is 4" x 4" x 3/4" and is made of tool steel which is ground flat, case-hardened and then polished. This block will leave a nice smooth finish and is perfect for stamping, flattening, laying out or chasing!

The ball-peen hammer weighs about 4 ounces and features a stainless steel head which is 2-1/2” long and has a slightly domed face which is approximately 3/4” round and a 5/8” rounded “peen” head. The handle is about 9” long and is fairly small around to offer a comfortable grip to all hand sizes.

Chocolate Caramel Bars

Chocolate caramel bars are a family favorite! This is the perfect time of the year to prepare a home baked treat for the ones you love! These bars are super easy and will melt in your mouth! Prepare them and then let me know what you think!

Chocolate Caramel Bars
1 package caramels
1 12 ounce evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter
1 12 ounce milk chocolate chips
1 German chocolate cake mix

Preheat oven to 350
Melt package of caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk
Mix cake mix, 1/2 cup butter and 2/3 cup evaporated milk
Place 1/2 of the mixture in 9x13 greased pan
Bake 6 minutes at 350
Top with chocolate chips and then spread caramel mixture over chips
Add the rest of the cake mixture and bake 15-20 minutes

Cool and enjoy!

Do you remember the Super Ball? The Super Ball was about the size and color of a plum and for those of us old enough to remember they were super fun!

Just six months after it was introduced by Wham-O in 1965, seven million balls had been sold at ninety-eight cents apiece. Incredible! Wham-O gave the bulletized balls a big promotional send-off and they caught on right away. Adolescent boys and girls discovered them first, but grown-ups were soon buying them, too. I was very, very young at the time and I remember my dad bringing home the Super Ball. Soon after that all the kids in the neighborhood had one! Man they could bounce and we were not allowed to play with them in the house! Mom considered them an "outdoor" toy!

Then each artist creates wonderful jewelery from the Party Packs they have received. Each artist has a blog so they post photos of the jewlry they have created. For me the most exciting part of the activity is reading and looking at all the photos of the creations.

Expressing Gratitude

Expressing gratitude.

It takes just a moment to thank someone for the smallest or greatest of gestures.

My mom and dad raised us to express gratitude daily. It started at the breakfast table. "Thank you mom for a delicious breakfast, may I please be excused?" were usually the first words I uttered in the morning growing up! I wasn't really all that excited about sitting down at the breakfast table with my family in the morning. I know my mom put a lot of effort into preparing a well balanced meal for us to start our day and I am grateful for her and the meals she prepared.

Through the day my parents encouraged us to be appreciative of those who touched our lives. From our teachers, to our coaches, to our scout leaders and more we were taught to thank those who gave of their time to make our lives full.

At the end of the night we always got down on our knees to express our gratitude to God for the good day. What a wonderful way to end our day.

The last couple of years I haven't sent out Christmas cards to my family and friends. Instead I sit down in January with my fireplace burning and enjoy writing New Year Cards!

I am so much more relaxed and it gives me a chance to respond to the wonderful Christmas cards I have received. When I sent Christmas cards I felt rushed and I didn't really enjoy the process. Now that I send New Year cards I take the time to enjoy the spirit of the season so much more.

My mom writes about 200 Christmas cards a year. She also receives about 200 Christmas cards a year. On Christmas Day my mom, brother and I sit down with glasses of wine and read all of her cards as a family. It is a wonderful tradition! We catch up with everyone through their photos, letters, and cards. It is so much fun!

My mom and brother would tease me that I always didn't get all my cards sent before Christmas, so a couple of years ago I decided to start my own tradition by sending New Year cards. My friends love receiving the cards in January and I enjoy extending my holiday season into the new year!

I Love To Travel For Business

I love to travel for business. I spent July and August traveling almost every day. I find that the key for me to traveling that much is organization both professionally and personally. The more organized I am the more smoothly I travel! I feel less stressed and enjoy the moment more when I have everything organized. I am not good when I have to fly by the seat of my pants. I know some people are much better at that than I am.

Today I am working in my office. Enjoying a day of no travel. Tomorrow I will hit the road again. But not until I finish organizing today!

Refreshing Lemonade

As I was driving home the other day some neighborhood children where just closing their lemonade stand for the day. I pulled over to make my purchase but they were sold out! I was so happy for them and gave them the money for a lemonade next time they set up their stand. Needless to say they were thrilled.

Since that day I have been craving a refreshing glass of lemonade. When I went grocery shopping this mornining my first stop were lemons. Right now I am enjoying a tall, cool glass of lemonade!

Rochester Minnesota Bookmobile

I recently was back in my hometown of Rochester, Minnesota. I was driving down Broadway and saw the Rochester Bookmobile. A wave of memories crashed over me! The Bookmobile would come to my neighborhood every week and I would look forward to it with great anticipation.

I was just a little girl when my mom would walk me to the Bookmobile. I remember the stairs being really high and I had to lift my knees up so that I could make it up on my own. Once I was inside there were so many possiblities for the week. There was a limit how many books we could check out so I was very careful to pick and choose the right ones. Then we would walk down the aisle to check out the books. The librarian would always be sure to comment on the importance of returning the books in good condition and on time! That was no problem for me! I knew that when I returned them I could always get more books!

The years went by and I could walk to the Bookmobile by myself. I continued to go to the Bookmobile every week. The stairs no longer seemed so high, but the books continued to hold my interest. I remember all of a sudden being tall enough to reach the top shelves and look at all the books up there. The book selection was endless. If there was a book I was looking for that they didn't have on the Bookmobile I could put in a request and they would bring it the next week! What great service!

I was a very lucky little girl growing up in Rochester. Looking back now I realize just how lucky I was. The joy and happiness of being a little girl and going to the Bookmobile was a privledge! Seeing the Bookmobile reminded me of that!

One of my favorite days of the year in Minnesota is Grand Old Day in St. Paul. This year will be no exception. There is the parade, sporting events, bands, and over 140 outdoor food and merchandise vendors.

Grand Old Day, St. Paul's first rite of summer, takes place along the city's historic Grand Avenue annually on the first Sunday in June. Grand Old Day is produced by the Grand Avenue Business Association as its annual fundraiser. Monies collected at the event go towards marketing the Avenue, annual events, business-to-business opportunities and avenue beautification.

This year Grand Old Day will be held June 6, 2010 from 7:45-5:00. If you don't have any plans for today be sure to check it out!

Fun In Minnesota Today - Edina Art Fair June 4-6, 2010

If you are looking for a fun event in Minnesota today I would head to the Edina Art Fair! There are 350 artists from all over the United States that are amazingly talented. In addition there are fashion shows, childrens activities and great food.

The Edina Art Fair is held at 50th & France in Edina. There are delightful stores to browse in while you are there! I am entertained for hours!

In my attempt to eat a more healthy diet I have been on a mission to introduce new foods to my diet. I recently tried Safflower Power Yogurt from Old Home and it was delicious!

Creativity

I have been pondering creativity. Creativity as defined by Wikipedia is a mental process involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the existing ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconcious insight. Wow!

I find that the more time I spend around creative people the more creative I am. They are creative in so many ways. Some are artists, writers, and teachers. Others are personal trainers, health care professionals and small business owners. Each person is creative in their own way. I learn different things from each one on a daily basis.

I haven't been feeling very creative lately. I am going to try to take a little more time each day to reflect, and play a little bit more. Today as I was running errands I picked up a set of colored pencils. I hope they inspire my creative spirit!

A Sure Sign Of Spring - The Golf Course Is Open

Another sure sign that spring is here is when the golf course near my home opens. Today when I was walking Evie I was super excited to see that the golf course opened today. The last few days they have been prepping the course so I knew we were close!

I hope to make a tee time sometime next week! Wish me luck as I chase that little white ball around while I enjoy spring!

One Hour Of Exercise A Day

One hour of exercise a day is what The Journal of the American Medical Association recommends for aging women just to maintain their weight. I try to swim an hour a day. Sometimes I am successful, sometimes I am not.

Researchers followed more than 34,000 middle-aged women for 13 years. They measured their weight and activity level, and found those who exercised at least 60 minutes a day gained fewer pounds over time than those who clocked less time in the gym or on the track.

This is a real wake up call for me. After reading the information that has been published I am going to make more of a commitment each day. How about you?

Spring In Minnesota

I love experiencing spring in Minnesota. This year has been unseasonably warm and I am loving it! We haven't had any snow the entire month of March - knock on wood - and the snow we did have has all melted!

Nearly every day has been sunny which I can't tell you how happy it makes me. The sun steaming in the windows in the morning brings a smile to my face!

I know that shortly we will see flowers blooming outside! Can't wait! Loving spring in Minnesota!

On February 9th I announced Free Leather Punch Set - Create A Tutorial Exchange Program With Evie's Tool Emporium. Through February 17th I received many wonderful applications from artists who were interested in creating a unique piece and then creating a tutorial utilizing a leather punch set. On February 19th I chose 2 artists. The artists work in several different mediums and I'm looking forward to their tutorials!

Productivity On Rainy Days

I am so productive on rainy days. I don't know why, but I am able to accomplish more projects on days that are not sunny! Today I have gone from task to task quickly and efficiently!

Magic 8 Ball Management

Have you ever tried magic 8 ball management? Today I found myself thinking about one of the best managers I ever had. He practiced magic 8 ball management! On his desk he had a magic 8 ball and when there was a small decision to be made we always consulted the magic 8 ball!

Both of us took our jobs very seriously. I mean that sincerely. There were times though when we needed to take a step back, and look at the small decision with a little laughter and levity. It was then that we would consult the magic 8 ball.

It was during this time in my life that I stopped taking myself so seriously. I learned to trust myself and the small decisions that I was making. This important life lesson was learned through magic 8 ball management!

I have added a magic 8 ball widget to my sidebar in memory of this important life lesson!
